Discover a new culture and accomplish something unforgettable...volunteer in the Philippines.

Are you interested in nutrition? Or have skills in Photography?

GVN has new projects in the Philippines which we are excited to share with you.

This is an opportunity to volunteer in typhoon-ravaged Tacloban. The community was devastated by Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda in November 2013 and are still very much in recovery mode. Once you arrive you will live with and be integrated into the lives of local families, sharing their food and way of life in Tacloban.

Projects include:

Street Children
Support and encourage vulnerable children who have resorted to begging on the streets because there is no food in the home. Volunteers are able to help them rise above their circumstances through ongoing education and support.

·
Media Intern
Do you want to help raise awareness? Are you media-savvy? As a grassroots non-profit organization, our partner does not invest funding into professional marketing strategies. Instead, one of the most powerful ways in which they attract support from donors around the world is through the powerful stories which are recorded by media interns
.

Rural Health Clinic

Day to day clinic activities will range from assisting the local doctor with daily consultations to helping with local government based initiatives such as vaccinations or deworming. Aside from this, volunteers may also have the opportunity to visit local barangays (neighbourhoods) during community clinic consultations.

·      Teaching English in Rural SchoolsLearning English is incredibly important and getting off to a good start in elementary school is critical. Unfortunately, many rural elementary schools are overcrowded and lack sufficient textbooks and teaching material. Often, the only classroom equipment available is a blackboard. Children are often squeezed into small classrooms, and most schools do not have a library. As a volunteer you will help these children make a great start with their English speaking.

·      Women’s Shelter Project
By volunteering in a women’s shelter, you can help promote female empowerment to some of the most disadvantaged and abused women in Filipino society.
Teaching is a great way to work with them and volunteers are encouraged to connect through dance, music, etc and to talk with them about health and other issues.

·      Public Health Nutrition
Do you have an interest in the nutrition needs of children? Do you want to help educate parents? The goals of this nutrition project are two-fold. The first is to provide a stable supplementary feeding program for malnourished infants or pre-school children aged three to six years old. The second is to disseminate information to parents about the importance of healthy nutrition through a series of workshops and seminars.

·      Community Centre
Volunteering on the Community Center project will let volunteers become heavily involved with our partner's Community Program and Child Sponsorship Program; for this reason this project is ideal for volunteers with a background in community and social work - although this is not essential. Volunteer activities will vary according to the preference and skills of each volunteer. Available tasks include assisting with supplementary relief acquisition and distribution, implementing local livelihood projects for mothers group, coordinating  empowerment and skills development projects for disenfranchised youth, and assisting Community and Social Workers with day-to-day tasks in local and far-flung communities.

When Can I Start?
Placements start on every Monday of the month and you can choose to volunteer from 2 weeks onwards.
